Mercury Poisoning And Its Effects On Human Health

I know many people wonder whether Mercury poisoning really affects our health. Even small amounts in the body can cause major health challenges.

Mercury Poisoning In The News.

The following is an excerpt from “NAIROBI, Kenya (The Associated Press) – Feb 17 – By TOM MALITI Associated Press Writer”.

“The Obama administration has reversed years of U.S. policy by calling for a treaty to cut mercury pollution, which it described as the world’s gravest chemical problem.

“Some 6,000 tons of mercury enter the environment each year, about a third generated by power stations and coal fires. Much settles into the oceans where it enters the food chain and is concentrated in predatory fish like tuna.

“Children and fetuses are particularly vulnerable to poisoning by the toxic metal, which can cause birth defects, brain damage and peeling skin”.

This comes from the US government. Now you may understand why I say that all of us are affected by toxins such as Mercury in some way. Do your homework and you will find that activated liquid zeolite is the safest and most efficient way to rid your body of toxic metals including Mercury, allowing your body to utilise nutrition from food, and return to vital health.

Information On Effects Of Mercury Poisoning

Acute mercury exposure may occur in the mining industry and in the manufacturing of fungicides, thermometers, and thermostats. Liquid mercury is particularly attractive to children because of its beautiful silver colour and unique behaviour when spilled. Children are more likely to incur acute exposure in the home from ingesting mercury from a broken thermometer or drinking medicine that contains mercury. Because mercury vapours concentrate at floor level, crawling children are subject to a significant hazard when the mercury is sprinkled throughout the house during religious ceremonies or when there is an accidental spill (Zayas et al. 1996). Mercury spills are difficult to clean up, and mercury may remain undetected in carpeting for some time. Symptoms of acute exposure are cough, sore throat, and shortness of breath; metallic taste in the mouth, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea; headaches, weakness, visual disturbances, tachycardia, and hypertension.

Chronic exposure to mercury may result in permanent damage to the central nervous system (Ewan et al. 1996) and kidneys. Mercury can also cross the placenta from the mother’s body to the foetus (levels in the foetus are often double those in the mother) and accumulate, resulting in mental retardation, brain damage, cerebral palsy, blindness, seizures, and inability to speak.

Mercury Poisoning From Fillings

Dental Amalgam is also suspected as being a possible source of mercury toxicity from chronic exposure. Some physicians suggest that amalgam fillings could be part of the explanation for the explosion of learning problems and autism in children since World War II, a time period corresponding with the introduction and widespread use of mercury amalgam (O’Brien 2001). Studies in both animals and humans have confirmed the presence of mercury from amalgam fillings in tissue specimens, blood, amniotic fluid, or urine (Vimy et al. 1990; Willershausen-Zonnchen et al. 1992; Gebel et al. 1996; Omura et al. 1996; Sallsten et al. 1996; Isacsson et al. 1997). However, according to Dr. Robert M. Anderton of the American Dental Association, “There is no sound scientific evidence supporting a link between amalgam fillings and systemic diseases or chronic illness” (Anderton 2001).

The ADA does acknowledge that amalgam contains mercury and reacts with others substances. However, to date the ADA concludes that amalgam continues to be a safe material. Researchers reported finding “no significant association of Alzheimer’s disease with the number, surface area, or history of having dental amalgam restoration” and “no statistical significant differences in brain mercury levels between subjects with Alzheimer’s disease and control subjects” (Saxe et al. 1999).

Interestingly, the metallic mercury used by dentists to manufacture dental amalgam is shipped as a hazardous material to dental offices. Although the ADA does not advise removing existing amalgam fillings from teeth, it does support ongoing research to develop new materials that will prove to be as safe as dental amalgam (Anderton 2001). Symptoms in adults and children could include tremors, anxiety, forgetfulness, emotional instability, insomnia, fatigue, weakness, anorexia, cognitive and motor dysfunction, and kidney damage. People who consume more than two fish meals a week are showing very high serum levels of mercury.

A Way To Remove Mercury Poisoning

Activated Liquid Zeolite is totally safe, and is proven to remove mercury from the body, limiting the damage caused by Mercury poisoning. This is backed up by a peer reviewed research report, published by Dovepress in 2009.

John Gaydon has been researching Natural Health for over 25 years. Recently he came across Activated Liquid Zeolite a revolutionary new detox product which removes Mercury and other toxins safely. More information at http://zeolitereview.org

If You Want To Grow Up To Be A Thermometer- Eat Lots Of Tuna

By Barbara Lockwood

Do you remember being a kid and having a mercury thermometer stuck under your tongue or armpit when you had a fever?

Do you also remember that they were fairly fragile and broke quiet often?

Do you remember the speedy little balls of Mercury rushing about on the floor or table or wherever you broke the thing? do you remember trying to catch them?

They were amazing little balls of energy! No one told us that this energy was dangerous to our health and many of us played with the little balls till they broke up and sank into the carpet and disappeared.

There you go, one of your better types of contact with mercury, you are on your way to becoming that Thermometer!.

But you were stil in the race because  they did not disappear just laid low and many cases of mercury poisoning can be traced back to this amazing fast and deadly element being left to sink into the floor covering, slide under the linoleum or just be swept up with the rubbish.

It is not as toxic a lead, (supposedly) where no level is safe. This is according to eminent toxicologist Dr Steven Gale from Sydney University who has stated categorically:

“There is no such thing as a safe level of lead in the human body!”

Abundant Mercury!

We all live with mercury in our bodies especially if you are of the age group that was exposed to amalgam fillings. A very large number of dentists tell you quite categorically that amalgam filings are harmless and we, the patients are gullible in the extreme to believe all this nonsense of it being dangerous.

However it does appear that the “safe” amalgam is no longer used. Is it because people refuse to have it in their mouths or is it because there really is a problem?

Could it be that all the dentists who say there is none are wearing the emperor’s clothes while they go on blithely poisoning yet another generation. Or is it really gone for good?

Getting back to the headline;

Tuna is one of the most toxic fish that we can eat.

All large fish fall into that TOXIC category! Tuna is one of the larger varieties and lives longer so it has more time to absorb mercury from the over abundant supply in our oceans.

Volcanos Erupt and spew out mercury.

Did you know that every time there is a volcanic eruption millions of tons of mercury are spewed into the ocean?

Some interesting information from the Daily Science website  suggests that a volcano does not even have to erupt to spread poisonous mercury!

[“Whilst researchers had suspected that mercury boils out of hot magma, the big surprise was just how much mercury escapes from volcanoes.

Measurements made on just one part of the Masaya volcano in Nicaragua, by Dr Melanie Witt of Oxford University, have shown that about 7 tonnes of natural volcanic mercury escapes into the atmosphere from this vent each year.

'That one vent of one volcano can produce 7 tonnes of mercury a year is astounding,’ said Oxford’s Dr Melanie Witt, ‘that’s considerably more than total industrial emissions of mercury from the UK – recorded at about 5.5 tonnes in 2000. It confirms our suspicions that volcanoes are an important part of the global mercury cycle: what we need to understand next is where this mercury ends up and what effects it may have on the environment.’”]

 Scientists get excited!

While scientists are excitedly studying these amazing happenings our bodies are tipping over the edge with excess mercury and other heavy metals..

And we are on toxic OVERLOAD!

Here is a beautiful dance orchetrated by Mother Nature:

As the mountains spew out mercury and posions us, in the very same outpouring it also creates the the answer to the problem.

Zeolite, a mineral also created by that same volcanic eruption mixes with salt in the water and forms amazing cage like structures that can capture the mercury and trap it inside the cage so that it can safely travel out of your body using natural functions.

It also captures lead and arsenic and other heavy metals.

The purest form of zeolite to use is Activated Liquid Zeolite.

Here are some more places you can get mercury from in case your career is still focused on becoming that Themometer!

Pregnant? Like Fish? Read This First!!!

By Angie Smith

Becoming a parent is no small choice. If you and your partner are planning this life-changing event, then congratulations! Planning in advance is an ideal situation for more than one reason. It gives a wannabe-mom plenty of time to detox. How important is this? Why do it? Is it safe? We’ll get to that later.

Nutrition Alone Is Not Good Enough!

What we know today is that nutrients aren’t the only things passed from mommy to baby through the umbilical cord and placenta. Some of the first things modern medicine advised against were the consumption of alcohol and smoking, while also avoiding secondhand smoke. For obvious reasons, even centuries ago, women were advised against drinking during pregnancy. Old Doc giving a pregnant woman the go-ahead to light up seems ridiculous now, but just a few decades ago, some doctors simply told their patients to “cut back” and just not smoke as much. I heard of one case where the doctor lit up while examining a pregnant woman, and after her exam, they both smoked together during the end of the visit! I know, it sounds insane, but it happened. So, humanity has progressed….or has it?

What of our “normal” environment? Each person has what’s called the “body burden”, or the collection of chemicals and toxins we accumulate over a lifetime. How does this affect the unborn? We now have years of research and findings to back up the theory that not-so-nice things, like toxins, heavy metals, and other unwanteds, reach the unborn fetus. We’re just now discovering the results of this disturbing occurrence.

What Do Studies Say About Toxicity In Pregnant Women?

Harvard University’s Medical, Dental, and Public Health Schools recently concluded an 18-year study of more than 800 children. Their mothers ate seafood containing mercury while pregnant. The study concluded that the toxic effects of exposure to mercury in the womb were permanent, and affected brain function. Even very low levels of mercury consumption produced slower hearing-related signals in the brain in children who were tested at age 14. The teens also had irregular heart rates, which is a sign of mercury toxicity in the brain stem.

Some the other nasty effects of mercury on the human body are:

  • Psychological Disturbances (Remember the “Mad Hatter” character in “Alice in Wonderland”? He was called so because hat-makers oftentimes eventually “went mad”. Later, we found out that the cause was the mercury used in the hat-making process.)
  • Oral Disease
  • Heart Conditions (irregularity, low pulse, pressure or chest pain)
  • Neurological Problems (headaches, slowed motor skills, ringing in ears)
  • Immune Disorders (allergies, asthma, eczema, swollen lymph nodes)
  • Endocrine Disorders
  • Memory Loss
  • …And too many more to list here.

Where Does The Mercury Come From?

So having said the above, it’s safe to say that an informed expectant mother would want to cut back on seafood and/or fish during her gestation period. But why is there mercury in our fish to begin with?

It goes something like this:

Mercury gets into the air from industry, garbage incineration, coal power generation, metal recycling, and among others, mining and manufacturing processes. Then, the airborne mercury deposits on land and in water, where microorganisms convert it into a more biologically active form, methylmercury. The methylmercury then works its way up the food chain, and since organisms tend to store mercury instead of excrete it, concentrations of mercury get higher as larger, longer-living creatures gobble up smaller ones. By the time you get to a top predator fish like a swordfish, albacore tuna, or shark, the concentrations are quite high. So when you open up a can of albacore tuna (like I did yesterday….yikes!), you are likely getting a pretty hefty dose of a nasty toxin, mercury.

Not only is the mercury bad for you, it can wreak havoc on baby’s delicate, forming brain.

I got conflicting advice when I was pregnant with my first baby over 11 years ago. The Internet was in its infancy, only a select few in my rural town had access, and the information that was out there in cyberspace was probably a 1000th of what it is now. So, I relied on my doctor’s advice and that of pregnancy books. My doctor told me to eat lots of tuna (“protein….it’s brain food…” he said), while the few pregnancy books I had did mention the mercury connection, and how a woman should be cautious about fish and seafood intake. I went with my gut instinct and almost entirely avoided fish while pregnant. Today I have two strong, healthy boys.

Leap ahead to the latter part of the first decade of the new millennium. Moms-to-be are so blessed now to have the wealth of information available at their fingertips!

Many women are now choosing a detox program before they take the plunge into mommyhood. And some moms who got a surprise visit from the stork are wondering how they can safely detox while pregnant.

Most obstetricians would advise against a colon-cleansing-type detox program for mothers who are already pregnant. This is not the most pleasant way to detox, as you can imagine!

A Better Way To Rid Your Body Of Heavy Metals Including Mercury

A newer, better way to detox with a patented mineral called zeolite has been making waves in both traditional and holistic medicine circles as of late. If you have read any of my articles or blog entries, you already know all about zeolite and its amazing properties.

Dr. Gabriel Cousens M.D., a doctor who wrote an amazing report on liquid zeolite, said, “In my work to develop a detoxification system for prospective mothers to enable them to bring non-toxic babies into the world, I have searched for a simple, natural remedy that could serve as a practical antidote for toxicity.” He goes on to recommend liquid zeolite for anyone wanting to start a detox routine, but especially for moms-to-be. Liquid zeolite has been shown, in anecdotal testimonials, to have also been safely used in women who were already pregnant.
